Candied BLT

The sweet, spicy candied bacon on this BLT can be made in batches for easy-to-assemble sandwiches that have a taste-advantage over a regular BLT.

Ingredients

SANDWICH

2 slices sourdough

4 – 8 slices candied bacon

2 tablespoons mayo

2 slices lettuce

2 slices tomato

3 sliced onion

5 slices avocado

CANDIED BACON

24 slices bacon

12 tablespoons brown sugar

4 teaspoons cayenne pepper (or other preferred ground chili pepper like guajillo, achiote, chile de arbol or even habanero)

DIRECTIONS FOR CANDIED BACON

Step 1

Preheat oven to 400°F.

Step 2

Lay out bacon on baking sheet trays, sprinkle with brown sugar and cayenne pepper and bake for 15 – 20 minutes or until desired doneness.

Step 3

Remove from oven and let cool.

Toast Bread

Step 2

Spread mayo on bottom slice of toasted sourdough then layer with candied bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion and avocado. Top with other slice of toasted sourdough and serve.
